Security, Privacy and Data Protection for Australian Schools
Schools trust SkyHyve with sensitive academic data, and that responsibility shapes how the platform is built.
We understand that student marks, assessment records, and school analytics are sensitive educational data, not generic business information.
SkyHyve's platform and security architecture draw on experience building and managing secure infrastructure, networking, and data systems in operationally sensitive environments.
Australian Data Residency
All customer data is hosted in Australia. SkyHyve is Australian-owned and operated, with product development handled in-house.
Data Processing and Storage
The School Statistical Suite processes uploaded datasets for analysis without building long-term student data profiles. The Managed Markbook retains marks and assessment data as the school's source of academic record.
School Environment Isolation
Each school's environment is kept separate from every other school we serve. One school's data is never visible or accessible to another.
Access Control and SSO
Access is governed by role-based permissions, with optional Single Sign-On. Schools decide who can view, edit, approve, and administer records.
Audit Trails and Accountability
Changes to marks, permissions, and configuration are recorded through audit and version history. Schools retain a clear, traceable record of how their data has evolved.
Managed Platform Operations
Updates, security patching, and day-to-day operational upkeep are handled by SkyHyve. Schools are not responsible for maintaining infrastructure or rolling out new releases.
Backup and Recovery
Regular backups and tested recovery procedures protect against data loss. Restoration is designed to keep disruption short and predictable.
Privacy and Data Use
School data is used only to deliver the services your school has requested. SkyHyve does not run advertising, behavioural profiling, or tracking, and customer data is never sold to third parties.
How SkyHyve runs in your environment
SkyHyve is browser-based and managed by us. There is no software to install, no infrastructure to maintain, and no special firewall or proxy changes required.
SkyHyve runs in modern browsers on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Firefox is the browser we use most heavily internally, though the platform is also commonly accessed through Edge, Safari, and Chrome.
Schools can start with CSV or Excel imports, or integrate with TASS and Schoolbox for student, staff, class, and enrolment data. SAML or OIDC single sign-on lets staff and students use their existing credentials.
A stable internet connection is required. SkyHyve uses standard HTTPS and fits within normal school network environments.
If a school chooses to use the optional plain-English assistant, limited user queries may be processed by AI services such as Google Gemini. This happens only with explicit user consent and under the same privacy controls as the rest of the platform. The assistant is optional and is not required to use the core platform, and it is the only part of SkyHyve that uses large language models. Every other feature, including all predictions, analytics, and rankings, runs on statistical methods rather than LLMs.
